Durban is surrounded on all sides by the mysteries of the African continent on which it lies – the rhythm of African drums, picturesque mountains, abundant subtropical forests, and many game and nature reserves, home to the Big Five.
Visit the excellent KwaMuhle Museum. This museum has a permanent display on the 'Durban System' by which whites subjugated blacks, and temporary exhibitions relating to Zulu culture and contemporary issues.
Visit the Natural Science Museum open daily from 8.30am to 5pm. Upstairs is the Art Gallery which houses a good collection of contemporary works, especially arts and crafts of Zululand. Take an energizing dip in the outdoor swimming pool on the 32nd floor, whilst enjoying the view of the ocean.
